A legal AI workspace for employer-side employment firms
Employer-side employment firms use Mike to review personnel files, handbooks and investigation notes, check employer policies against the facts of a claim, and draft position statements, answers and advice memos. Every statement cites the page it came from, so an attorney can verify it.

Attorney: Check the termination of Mr. Reeves against the attendance policy and his personnel file, then draft the facts section of the position statement.
Mike: The attendance policy provides for a written warning after three unexcused absences and termination after five [1]. Mr. Reeves received a written warning on February 3 and signed it [2]. The file shows five unexcused absences by April 19 and the termination notice follows two days later [3]. I drafted the facts section and noted that no comparator records were in the file.

Employer work comes in two forms: claims already filed and questions asked before anything is. Both depend on the same documents: the handbook, the policy that applied, the investigation file, the personnel record. Mike reads them together and shows whether the paper trail supports the decision the client made, and where it does not.
Cuanto Labs saves your handbook audit checklist and your position statement and separation agreement forms in Mike, and connects it to the folders where each client's personnel files sit. Investigation notes and personnel records stay within your firm's own installation.
What Mike does for your practice
- Position statement drafts
- Mike reads the charge, the personnel file and the investigation notes and drafts a position statement from your template, with a record cite after each factual sentence. The attorney edits the Word draft and decides what the client says.
- Handbook and policy review
- Mike reads a client's handbook and lists provisions that correspond to the topics you ask about, such as leave, complaint procedures, arbitration and overtime, and compares two versions to show what changed.
- Investigation file review
- Mike reads interview notes, emails and the final report and checks whether the stated findings are supported by the documents, listing statements in the report that have no source in the file.
- Consistency across decisions
- Tabular review pulls fields such as position, conduct, discipline imposed and decision maker from many personnel files into a table, so you can see how similar situations were handled before advising on a termination.
- Agreement and policy drafting
- Mike drafts separation agreements, policy updates and advice letters from your forms and the facts supplied, and edits existing Word documents with tracked changes.
- Litigation holds and discovery
- Mike drafts litigation hold notices and discovery responses from your templates and the pleadings, and compares responses with the documents collected to flag gaps.
- Case law research
- Mike searches case law through CourtListener on questions such as whether a stated reason was applied consistently, reads the opinions, and checks each case citation against CourtListener.
How we set it up for your firm
- Position statement template
- We load your position statement form with its section order, the way your firm cites the record and the exhibits you attach, so a first draft follows your structure.
- Handbook audit workflow
- We turn your handbook audit checklist into a saved workflow that any attorney can run on a new client's documents.
- Personnel file review columns
- We build a Tabular Review template with columns such as position, conduct at issue, discipline imposed, decision maker and date, so files from different managers line up in one table.
- Hold notice and discovery forms
- We load your litigation hold notices, custodian questionnaires and standard discovery responses, so drafts carry your instructions and objections.
- State supplement set
- For clients in several states, we save each state's handbook supplement and policy form separately and agree how they are named, so one review can run across all of them.
Questions attorneys ask
Can Mike spot a problem in a handbook?
Mike can read a handbook and list the provisions that address the topics you ask about, and it can compare versions. It does not know which provisions are lawful in your jurisdiction without research. Attorneys make that call, and Mike can search published case law to support it, citing every opinion it has read.
Can Mike check whether a client applied a policy consistently?
If the personnel files are in the matter, tabular review can pull the same fields from each, such as conduct, discipline and decision maker, into one table. Mike reports what the documents show and marks what they do not. Whether two situations are comparable is for the attorney to decide.
Can Mike compare the decision maker's account with the investigation file?
Give it the interview notes, the final report and the termination memo, and it lists where the accounts agree and where a statement has no source in the file. It reports what the documents say and marks gaps. Credibility and the adequacy of the investigation are the attorney's judgment, and the page links show where each statement came from.
Can Mike write the position statement for us?
It drafts the sections you ask for from your template and the file, with a record cite after each factual sentence. The decisions about what the client asserts, concedes and leaves out remain with the attorney. The output is a Word document, with tracked changes for later revisions. Ask Mike to flag any sentence in a draft that lacks a record cite, and the attorney sees which assertions still need support.
Can it help with a multistate client?
Mike can hold each state's policies and templates as separate saved materials and run the same review across them, but it does not replace your knowledge of each jurisdiction. We set up the structure with you during scoping, and research sources your firm subscribes to can be connected. This is useful when a client's handbook has state addenda, since Mike can list what each addendum says on a topic side by side.
Can Mike draft discovery responses from the complaint?
It drafts responses to requests from your template, the pleadings and the documents collected, and marks any answer that no document supports. Objections follow the language you load, not text invented for the matter. The attorney decides which objections to assert and signs the responses. The output is a Word file, and later revisions arrive as tracked changes.
