A legal AI workspace for healthcare law firms

Healthcare law firms use Mike to review provider and payer agreements, extract key terms across a client's contract portfolio, and prepare responses to audits and regulatory inquiries from the documents on file. Every answer cites the page or section it came from, so counsel can verify it directly.

Attorney: Read the audit letter and the payer agreement, then list what records they can request and the deadline to respond. Draft a response cover letter.

Mike: The audit letter requests records for 40 sampled claims and sets a 30 day response period [1]. The payer agreement lets the plan audit claims for 24 months after payment and requires written notice of any recoupment [2]. Amendment 2 changed the response period to 45 days [3], so the letter's deadline may be shorter than the contract allows. I drafted a cover letter reserving that point.

Example matter. Names and documents are fictional.

Healthcare clients hold large numbers of agreements that look alike and differ in small ways: medical director arrangements, referral and services contracts, payer agreements, business associate terms. Mike reads them as a set, lists what differs, and shows where, so attorneys spend their time on the exceptions.

Cuanto Labs loads your agreement review checklists, policy templates and response letters into Mike and connects it to your client folders. Provider contracts and payer terms stay within your firm's own installation.

What Mike does for your practice

Provider agreement review
Mike reads a physician employment agreement, medical director contract or professional services agreement and lists compensation terms, term and termination, restrictive covenants and any provisions your checklist flags, with a citation to each section.
Payer contract comparison
Upload a client's payer agreements and Mike builds a table of reimbursement methodology, timely filing windows, audit rights, termination provisions and amendment mechanics, so a practice can see how its contracts differ before a renewal.
Contract portfolio tabulation
Tabular Review pulls the same fields from every arrangement in a client's folder, such as parties, dates, compensation basis and renewal terms, into a sortable table. Gaps, such as a missing signature page, show up as empty cells to chase.
Audit and inquiry response
When a client receives a records request or audit letter, Mike reads the letter and the underlying files, lists what is being asked for, finds responsive documents, and drafts a cover letter or summary for attorney review.
Policy and compliance document drafting
Mike drafts policies, procedures and board materials in Word from your templates and the client's existing documents, and revises them with tracked changes when the client's operations change.
Regulatory research
Mike searches case law through CourtListener on the questions your matter turns on, reads the opinions before summarizing them, and checks each case citation against CourtListener. Regulatory and guidance sources are searched only if your firm connects them.

How we set it up for your firm

Provider agreement checklist
We load your checklist for physician employment, medical director and services agreements, covering compensation, term, termination, covenants and assignment.
Payer contract columns
We build a Tabular Review template with reimbursement methodology, timely filing window, audit rights, termination and amendment mechanics, so each payer becomes one row.
Audit response templates
We load your cover letters and response summaries for records requests and audits, and agree how a responsive-document index should be laid out.
Policy and board material templates
We load the policy, procedure and board material templates your team uses, so revisions come back in your format.
Guidance research sources
If your firm subscribes to regulatory and guidance research sources, we connect them so Mike can search them next to case law.

Questions attorneys ask

Can Mike review a physician employment or services agreement?

Yes. Mike reads the agreement against your checklist and lists the terms that matter, such as compensation, term, termination, non-competition and assignment, with a citation to each section. It also compares the agreement with the client's other arrangements. An attorney decides what to negotiate and what to advise, and every flagged section can be checked in one click.

Should documents that contain patient information be loaded?

That is a decision for your firm and your client. Most contract and policy work does not need patient records, and we can set up matter folders that leave clinical files out. Audit responses sometimes do involve them, so decide folder by folder and connect only what the matter needs.

Can Mike find regulations and guidance for a client?

Not on its own. Built-in search covers case law through CourtListener, and case citations are checked against CourtListener. Regulations, agency guidance and state materials come from the research sources your firm subscribes to, which we connect during setup. The attorney confirms what applies to the client by reading the current text.

Can Mike help with a large audit or records production?

It can read the request, search a client's files for responsive documents, and build an index of what was found with a link to each page. It can draft the cover letter and a summary. Deciding what is responsive and what is privileged stays with the attorneys, and the index gives them a starting point to review.

Can we use our own policy and contract templates?

Yes. We load the templates and review checklists your firm already uses, and Mike drafts and revises in that format. Output is a Word document, with edits shown as tracked changes when it revises an existing draft. Your own language stays the reference point, and partners keep control over what the templates say.

Can Mike compare payer agreements before a renewal?

Load the agreements and Mike builds a table with one row per payer covering reimbursement method, filing windows, audit rights and how amendments take effect. Each cell links to the clause, and gaps show as empty cells with a note. The attorney decides which differences to raise with the payer.
